Oh JOY!

Model Shoot with Joy, in Thomasville NC.  Joy is a Thomasville Native, and a current student at East Davidson High School in Thomasville.  I first saw Joy when she competed, and won, Miss Thomasville, 2009.

She worked great with the camera, and took great direction!

We had a blast, and she is such a pretty girl!

We decided to set up a photo wall at my son’s summer care program, and play dressup!  How fun!!!

Photo Walls are so much fun, and are great for weddings, corporate events, family reunions!!!  etc etc etc!

an evening of respite…

So, this evening, for the first time in a month, it was lovely.  around 73 degrees, slight breeze, the smell of fresh cut grass.  As part of a workshop through Lovethatshot.com, I am tasked to shoot some flowers.  There aren’t many in my yard…in fact, the only thing in my yard is a hydrangea bush whose flowers look a bit antique by now.  But the more I play, the more I enjoy the weather, and take advantage of this little respite from the heat and humidity, the more I settle into a bit of a rhythm.  On the ground, on my knees, looking up, looking down.  Trying to isolate what bit of color is left among the dried out grass and slowly darkening sky.

enjoy.

2010 Student Mentoring Program!

Check it out…It will be very basic, so mainly for high school students who are looking into photography or digital image retouching.  Or for anyone who just wants to learn some of the tools in photoshop.

All are welcome, as it is a free online project.

Behind the scenes.

In Case you hadn’t heard, things are a little wild over here right now, as we await the release of the August issue of Our State Magazine here in North Carolina.  I was asked to shoot 6 images (7 full pages) for this issue,  and am honored to have been given the opportunity.

At one of the shoots, where we were shooting both for a front porch image, as well as a Sweet Tea image, Our State art editor Deanne O’Connor and Videographer Jenny Tenney joined us.  Jenny put together this fantastic video for the Our State Web site:I’m hoping this is just the first of many magazine jobs, but this will definitely be the one I remember as being the most exciting, as it is opening doors I didn’t think would ever open!  Thanks to Deanne for making it such a great experience for me.

Girls just wanna have fun…

Chase, Addy, and Jordyn.  Add cool hair and makeup from Allyson Jacobs, and some funky costuming styling by yours truly, and you have what I call ‘Elizabethan Punk’…vaguely reminiscent of Cyndi Lauper, if i do say so myself!

This is what we call our ‘High Fashion Photo shoot’.  2-3 hours, hair and makeup included, and you receive a disc of all the images and rights.  It is so much fun, and adds tons of images to your or your child’s portfolio for modeling, acting, etc.

Book now, because the summer is heating up!!!

Central Valley Homesick

Just going through some of my images from my trip to California in April.. and found this image of the Vineyard next to my Aunt Beth’s house.  Reminds me of the wide open places in the central valley, where you can see forever.  So pretty.

I used some new overlay images I got for signing up for the newsletter at ‘lovethatshot.com‘.

The thing with overlaying textures, it’s a bit like painting with oils.  You add one over the top of another, change blending modes, dodge a little, paint a little, mask a little, change the hue or burn a little.  It’s a constant push and pull of the image until you look up and there it is, just what you had in your head when you started.  It’s a bit of magic, really.

Hot Diggity Dog, them’s some good ribs!

The folks at Bib’s Downtown in Winston Salem, NC were kind enough to let me come in a couple of weeks ago and shoot some images of their fantastic slow cooked meats…I’m a little partial to the ribs, but the entire restaurant, from the food, to the history of the place (3 good friends with a desire to open a local, community centric place with great food) just makes me happy.

You can find the website at http://www.bibsdowntown.com/

AND, better yet, if you want to know the weekly or daily specials, follow them on facebook here
